"Giving is the best communication"

Zsuzsánna – Mónika Pálffy

I was born in Odorheiu Secuiesc/Székelyudvarhely. I live in Tărcești/Tarcsafalva, but am staying in Odorhei/Udvarhely because of school. I go to Áron Tamási High School as an eleven grader, and my field of study is social sciences (“philology”). My motto is the following: “One can only attain purity and great things through a pure and righteous path”, said by Áron Tamási. In my opinion we can only make this happen through progression while avoiding regression. However, we must keep our moral values in mind.

You mentioned in your report that dance is one of your hobbies. How long have you been doing it? What does it give you?

Unfortunately, due to health issues I cannot continue practicing dance. I’ve been doing it since I was in 9th grade. It was an important activity in my everyday life that I’d like to pick up again once I recover. Because of dance I was a member of a community where it didn’t matter if you were rich or poor, or if you had two left feet. We had an awesome dance instructor who encouraged us by saying there’s no one who can’t dance. When I dance, I can relax and don’t think of my everyday issues. It makes me feel stronger physically and mentally, as well.

We found out that you’re thinking about pursuing your career in the field of law. Why is that?

I’d like to become a lawyer. This profession doesn’t only offer a better-paid job, but teaches you how to stay strong and be persistent. You will also learn that life isn’t always fun and you will realize that one loses sometimes, but needs to get up and continue fighting. Ever since my childhood, my family kept telling me that “you’re a smart girl, don’t give up!”. I’ve always been honest, determined and purposeful. My dream has been to get back our land that they took away years ago (if my dad won’t have gotten back by then). This is one of the reasons why I want to become a lawyer. At the same time, I don’t want to rush things. I’m interested in other fields, too. My goal is to get to know myself better as soon as possible.

According to you, you’ve had the opportunity to be a volunteer in an elderly home by participating in plays. What other volunteer program would you like to take part in?

In my opinion in order for you to volunteer, you don’t necessarily have to be part of a volunteer organization. Any small act of selflessness that helps someone else is all you need to do to be a volunteer. Once we know ourselves better, as a member of a team we can continue volunteering being braver perhaps and having the courage to talk in front of other people. To be honest I’d try almost anything to help others, since I know what a nice feeling is to have people supporting me.

What does it mean to be a scholarship recipient of the foundation? How does it help you?

It means a lot. Now I know that there are people here in Transylvania who try to support the youth and see the future in them. The scholarship helps me a lot, because this way I don’t need to commute and walk in very cold weather, so I don’t get sick as often. Besides, I have more time for studying and for spending time with my friends. Meanwhile, I also have the chance to get to know myself more.

Message for the foundation:

Thank you very much for the support! I’m trying to improve myself and to study better, so I will become someone my parents, friends and even the foundation can be proud of. I hope that my academic achievement will reward me with a job that allows me to support this foundation. Thank you, once more!
