"Giving is the best communication"

Gábor Ibolya

„I would like to become a role model in the future...”

gabor_ibolya

My name is Gábor Ibolya, I study social sciences in the Márton Áron High School in the 12th grade. I live in Lăzarea with my parents and my sister. Since high school I have been living in a student residence, so I only go home in the weekends. This year I have to graduate, and start university, so I focus all my energy on studying.

Q: What do you do in your free time? What are you keen on?

Gábor Ibolya: I like to use my free time optimally, but nowadays it’s quite hard to organize it. Summer I often go hiking, take a trip, or even camping. The beauty of the nature always fills me with positive energy, and in the same time it makes me wonder. At other times I read, play an instrument, or I am just simply with my friends. I was always interested by the natural values and also by the people’s way of thinking, behaviour. And last but not the least about folk customs, folk music and dance.

Q: So this was a conscious decision...

Gábor Ibolya: You can say that I choose humanities because I can find everything in the „box” I like, for example: literature, history, psychology and geography. I have taken part in geography competitions for more times, for example at the Competition of Hungarian High School Students I achieved mention in 9th grade, and I won in 11th grade. In addition I achieved first place in the county round in 9th grade. Last year I was doing a research on environmental protection: I examined well water in my village; I analysed it, and made comparison. With my research I took part in the Student Conference of Miskolc and I got the first prize. In addition I also presented my work on TUDEK (a student Conference), and I achieved 3rd place. So taking into consideration the competitions, I think humanities are the field of study in which I can evolve the most.

Q: You have various interests: music, dance, walking in the nature. What does it give you, and how much time do you have for them now when preparing for the final exam?

Gábor Ibolya: As the final exam comes, I don’t have as much time as before, but I am trying to find balance between studying and my hobbies. I often think that music, or a walk helps me organize the information in my head, so besides studying I also consider these things important. I have to learn to organize my time usefully in order to be able to do various activities.

Q: What are your plans after graduation? The school gave you a direction, do you continue in that way, or change it?

Gábor Ibolya: Nowadays, as every other graduate student, I often think of university. I try to be realistic about my future plans, because doing my work efficiently, professionally is very important for me. At the moment I have two options: I would like to be a kindergarten or elementary school teacher since I like children, and I am honoured that I can contribute to their personality, to their basis, and I can help them meet the world and start off on their right foot.

Besides my other plan is about geography, because this field is very important to me. The nature, its variety, values, treasures amaze me. If I choose a university in this fields I will have the opportunity to study geology, meteorology, hydrology, cartography, and other thing related to geography, and I can pass my knowledge to others. High school helped me a lot in forming my interests, especially about geography. I am sure that I will use it somehow in the future.

Q: Have you thought of going abroad after graduating university?

Gábor Ibolya: Living here means a lot to me so I have never thought of living my life abroad. But I consider studying abroad a good opportunity to learn language, to meet new cultures. I don’t dream of building a great carrier, I won’t like to gain diplomas. I think that even having a family has got its moment in life. Apart from this, if I got a chance to study abroad, I would definitely say yes, but after finishing it, I would come home.

Q: What are you most proud out of the things you achieved? If I asked the same in 5-10 years, what would be your answer? What are the things you would like come true by then?

Gábor Ibolya: I think I can be grateful for a lot of things, and I am also proud of my results, but these aren’t the most important. I would like to become a role model in the future, who can pass on all the knowledge, he learnt. I would like to be useful in my work.

Q: What does the foundation’s help mean to you?

Gábor Ibolya: The foundation contributed to my accommodation expenses, and to my basis for university. In addition it made me possible to have new opportunities in life in order to make my dreams come true.

Nagy Renáta Bea

„I can count on a helping hand in every month...”

nagy_renata

My name is Nagy Renáta Bea, I was born on 6 July 1995 in Odorheiu Secuiesc, I live in Zetea. I used to study in the Dr. P. Boros Fortunát Secondary School, and now I am a student of the Tamási Áron High School with philology specialization. I have a wide variety of plans, and if I will have the opportunity I would like to continue my education.

Q: Why did you choose this specialization?

Nagy Renáta Bea: I was already interested in languages in elementary school, I love reading. In the same time I never liked science subjects, instead of solving Math examples I turned the pages of a book. I consider language learning very important because it is much easier to make your way if you have a basic vocabulary.

Q: Preparing for the final exam must take up much of your time, but what are the things you do in your free time?

Nagy Renáta Bea: Preparing for the final exam takes up much of my time, so I don’t really have free time, but I try to use the little I have as productively as possible. I read mostly, look up things that make me curious, spend time with my friends. I like doing sports, summer I am usually out in the nature. A few times I took part in the restoration of carved gates of Zetea.

Q: What did you learn during the restoration?

Nagy Renáta Bea: It was a great feeling, and besides spending a lot of time with my friends, I gained experience. We learnt about the traditional symbols and their meaning, we could advance our painting skills, and we also learnt about new things, for example that the colours have unique meaning, and without taking it into consideration a lot of gates are restored wrongly. Unfortunately we stopped the restoration, even though it was my favourite free time activity. If I will have the opportunity, I would like to carry it on because it is important that the people realise how important tradition is, and how important conserving and passing the old values on are.

Q: What do you do after the final exam? Is it possible that the new world you have met during the restoration will be a future destination for you?

Nagy Renáta Bea: I would like to carry on the restoration of gates as a free time activity. If I pass the final exam, I would like to enrol to the Psychology Department of the Babeş Bolyai University, and I would like to become a successful, popular psychologist.

Q: What does the foundation’s help mean to you?

Nagy Renáta Bea: It means a lot that I can count on a helping hand every month, which not only makes my studies easier, but it also reduces the number of everyday problems. Without the support it would be very hard to cover the travel and school expenses. I would like to thank the foundation for the scholarship I have been receiving for three years. They made me cry again. This support is the only firm point in my life every month.

Holló Henrietta

„It makes our everyday life easier...”

hollo_heni

My name is Holló Henrietta, I have been studying in the Segítő Mária Catholic High School for eight years, and this is my last year at philology-theology specialization. I was born and raised in Miercurea-Ciuc. After my parents’ divorce I have been living with my mother and my older sister.

Q: What do you do in your free time?

Holló Henrietta: Basketball takes up most of my free time because this is the only activity, which makes me relaxed and happy. In addition I try to spend some time with my friends, but I focus mostly on my studies. In the weekends I help my mother in the house work, and I look after my little cousin whenever I can.

Q: What have you achieved in the basketball so far? What does this sport teach you?

Holló Henrietta: In this sport I have achieved quite a lot of things. In seventh grade I changed from ice-skating to basketball, which I pursue competitively. One of my major experiences was a match organized in Cluj-Napoca, where I played with the school team and we achieved a good place. Besides participating on matches organised by the school (local and county championships) I participated on many streetball events and basketball marathons. On the last basketball marathon I won the title „The most successful girl” and I am very proud of it.

At present I play in a team which consists of the best players in the city. Our name is Csíkhágó Ballerins, and we go for winning the National Championship of Szeklerland in basketball category.

The sport thought me to struggle with all my strength, to play by the rules, to respect the opponents, to not consider them enemies and to accept the decisions of the referee. I learnt to win and to lose. I think that the best player is the one, who, after losing a match, smiles, and shakes hands with the opponent, thinking „I will never give up”. During these years the sport thought me to take control of my emotions, and to play my opponent with clear head. I learnt to make decisions on the spur of the moment, and the most important: to stick together.

Q: Besides the sport you take place in voluntary activities...

Holló Henrietta: Yes, I took part in voluntary activities two times. I joined the Care2Travel non-governmental organisation, and I participated in two summer camps for children in orphanages organised by the help of three native English volunteers. My tasks were to make communication easier between the children and the volunteers, and to help carrying out other activities.

Another time, within the frameworks of the Care2Travel Organization I helped an American volunteer in his English teaching project for orphans. It was a great feeling and experience, I learnt a lot, so I am willing to carry out voluntary activities in the future whenever need be.

Q: What do you do after high school?

Holló Henrietta: I don’t have many left from high school, so I have been thinking a lot about my future lately. I would like to achieve good grades at the final exam, which will show me what I am capable of, so I will make the final decision after it. I have a lot of options, but the sport is the first of them. Because the sport plays a big role in my life, I would like to continue it as a trainer.

Q: What does the foundation’s help mean to you?

Holló Henrietta: This help means a lot to me, to us. I used this money in order to buy my books, my school and sport equipment. My mother’s salary is very little, so I wouldn’t have been able to buy all these things without the foundation’s help, in other words it makes our everyday life easier.
