"Giving is the best communication"

Ágoston István

„One should never give up!”

agoston_istvan

Ágoston István is an 11th grader of the Backamadarasi Kis Gergely Reformed High School with Mathematics and Computer Science specialisation. Since he was born he has been living with his grandparents at Odorheiu-Secuiesc.

In terms of relaxation, István goes into the school’s gym with his friends. He says that he goes there two-three times a week, but it depends on his free time. It might happen that he is busy all week and can’t go.

Ágoston István: I used to play basketball, but because of the many lessons I have I stopped it. Nowadays I only go summer with some classmates to play something in the afternoon. I am very keen on computer and online programming; I often check these kinds of information at home.

Q: Have you ever taken part in voluntary activities? What motivated you?

Ágoston István: Unfortunately, I haven’t taken part in any voluntary activities yet, but I will do as soon as I get the opportunity. I consider cooperation very important, because this is the only way to create something big, something lasting in order to help others.

Q: Where, and at which university would you like to continue your education?

Ágoston István: To be honest, I am not sure about this: before I was thinking about Computer Science, but I am not sure if it’s worth working as a programmer. But I am more and more interested in psychology: I consider it interesting, but I don’t have a concrete aim with it.

Q: How do you see the future of the present youngsters?

Ágoston István: I think, for us, for the youth of today it would be important to remain purposeful. Let’s consider the Baccalaureate (final examination after graduating high school) „trailer” in 11th grade: it’s not a big deal if one doesn’t pass it, but if he puts effort in that particular subject, then on the real exam he will be able to succeed. It is very important: one should never give up otherwise the chance of success is zero.

Q: Do you consider remaining at your fatherland important?

Ágoston István: Yes, I think it is very important to try to earn the daily bread here, because unfortunately more and more people are leaving Transylvania and go abroad, and if the process continues I am not sure the city will be worthy of the name Székelyudvarhely (Odorheiu-Secuiesc)

Q: What does the foundation’s help mean to you?

Ágoston István: I would like to thank the foundation for the scholarship. It is a great help for me in the school to buy the necessary things, and a permanent motivation to have better and better results, and if something goes wrong, to start over until I reach my goal.

Q: What do you suggest the youngsters in search of their future career?

Ágoston István: It might sound casual, but I would like to suggest everybody to love their job, no matter what, because this way they won’t be working, but doing their hobbies for all of their lives.

Tóth Gabriella Adél

„I got an opportunity to view my future in another way...”

toth_gabriella

My name is Tóth Gabriella Adél, I was born on 11 November 1998 in Odorheiu-Secuiesc. I live in Rareș with my mother, my younger sister and my grandmother. My father died in 2012. I am a 9th grader of the Tamási Áron High School with natural sciences specialization. Since the high school I have been living in the school’s student residence.

Q: Why did you choose this specialisation?

Tóth Gabriella Adél: To be honest, I didn’t have a concrete imagine about where to continue my education. I was a bit surprised when I found out that I had enrolled successfully to this specialization, but I realised that this is the closest to me. In the beginning it was hard to get use to the many science subjects, but I can tell now that I don’t have problems with them anymore. I think that I made the right decision when I enrolled here.

Q: What do you do in your free time?

Tóth Gabriella Adél: In my free time when I have the opportunity I read, or hang out with my friends. In grade school I played handball, but unfortunately I can’t continue it, because the school doesn’t have a handball team. I like furniture painting, I have been doing it for 4 years, and I would like to continue it. In the weekends, when I am at home, I spend a lot of time in the open, because I adore the nature.

Q: You have four years full of new experiences ahead of you. What are your expectations towards these years and yourself?

Tóth Gabriella Adél: Yes, four years full of experiences that I would like to spend usefully. As it was very hard to get used to the new environment, to catch up with the other at school, I didn’t really have time for my free time activities. But as soon as I have the opportunity, I would like to dance folk dance and I am interested in furniture painting. I would like to take part in competitions as well during these years. The sooner the better. Besides this I hope that after the four years I will manage to graduate successfully. I would like to gain much knowledge to use it in the future.

Q: Have you thought of continuing your education?

Tóth Gabriella Adél: If I graduate successfully I would like to go to university, because I consider it important. It matters a lot where and what I work, and I would like to support my mother as well. As I am in the first year of high school, I don’t have concrete plans, but I definitely want to continue my education.

Q: What does the foundation’s help mean to you?

Tóth Gabriella Adél: The foundation’s help means a great support to me. It took a load off my mother’s shoulders, because she couldn’t afford all these cost, this is something I can’t thank with words. The fact that I can have the foundation’s help means more then everything to me, so I take studying even more serious. I got an opportunity to view my future in another way. I am very grateful to the foundation for this.

Portik Attila

„Encourages me to study harder and to work in order to achieve my goals...”

portik_attila

My name is Portik Attila, I was born on 7 January 1998. I live in Lăzarea with my parents and two sisters. My older sister, Tímea, is studying at the „Babeş Bolyai” University, while my other sister, Andrea, is studying in the Salamon Ernő High School. I am in 9th grade in the Márton Áron High School with natural sciences specialization. Because of this I live in the Kós Károly student residence in Miercurea-Ciuc, I can only spend the weekends at home.

Q: Why did you choose this specialization?

Portik Attila: I consider natural sciences interesting and important. They seek the answers for questions, which were always on people’s mind. They try to explain the phenomena, happenings that surround us. So my decision wasn’t in question. The other reason was to study languages as well beside Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology. I think that speaking languages will be useful in my future education.

Q: If I am right, you can’t let Physics in your free time either...

Portik Attila: In my free time I am happy to deal with Physics; I read and gain information in this field. It might sound strange for most people, but for me Physics is more than just a subject, I am happy to pay attention to it. First I was curious, but now it means a hobby for me. Obviously I do other things as well in my free time. Even if I spend most of my time with studying, I am happy to do sport, to go hiking, or help my parents.

Q: Why Physics?

Portik Attila: I became interested in Physics two years ago, the reason why is hard to explain. What got my attention is that it describes the world around us with laws, but not in a way to put it between some limits. In Physics we don’t make laws, but we describe them by our analyses. The reason I like it is that not only numbers and laws are important, but imagination and creativity.

Q: So this specialization was a conscious decision...

Portik Attila: Yes, it was a conscious decision, as far as it is possible at this age. I would definitely like to continue my education related to one of the area of Physics, but I have just started to find out about my opportunities.

Q: If we set down a meeting in 10 years’ time, where would it be? In a research lab abroad or here?

Portik Attila: I would like to take place in researches in the future, but these are only dreams I hope I can make come true. After the university I would like to study abroad, to gain new experiences I can use at home, to help the progress of my fatherland. My greatest goal is to achieve results not only for myself, but for the society.

Q: How does the foundation contribute to achieve your goals?

Portik Attila: The foundation’s help contributes to my education. My parents’ salary isn’t too much, and they also have to pay the school cost of my two sisters. The scholarship helps to cover the student residence, without it I couldn’t study in this school. Beside this I can also put aside some for the specialised book. It encourages me to study harder and to work in order to achieve my goals. I would like to thank the foundation for its help! We all got closer with a little to our dreams, it is a great opportunity and present for us.
