„I feel closer and closer to the things which had been miles away from me before…”

My name is Geréb Noémi, I have been living in a very isolated village named Fâncel. I have two older siblings who study at university. I have been studying in Tamási Áron High School for four years, this is my last year, I am a senior.

Q: How do you feel about this senior year?

Geréb Noémi: Everybody said that "The last year will fly away quickly, use every opportunity”. I share their view, because the first semester is almost over, and the last period seemed just a second for me. I would like to continue my studies of course, which involve a successful final exam…

Q: If you are not at school or do not study, how do you spend you spare time?

Geréb Noémi: I have plenty things to do in twelfth grade. Since I finish at 3 o'clock and I get home only at about 5 o'clock, the period in which I can perform any activities is reduced. But I really like to read, I used to play handball, I volunteer wherever I can, on Tuesdays I go to theatre, and in the weekends I work.

Q: The high school years are coming to end and you enter the big wide world. Which would be the most important moments?

Geréb Noémi: There are plenty of moments I look back and I start laughing. When I have a very nostalgic moment, I am happy to remember the sound of the alarm on cold winter mornings as well, but what I especially loved was eating during courses, I considered it a real mischief, and the feeling that you eat in secret gives the food a better taste, even for a dry croissant.

Q: Where and what do you want to study?

Geréb Noémi: I want to continue my studies, but I don't have a concrete idea yet. I am interested in many things, but I would like to graduate from a university which gives me the opportunity to find a job in the future.

Q: How do you imagine your future, say 10 years from now? Where do you see yourself, what do you do?

Geréb Noémi: Ten years from now I see myself as a successful woman who has just started her career. I won't have a monotone life, I would like to try many things, to gain experience through travelling, to get an insight in other people's lives, habits, culture, for example: the Far East.

Q: You're young and dreamy. To which dream did the foundation take you closer?

Geréb Noémi: I feel closer and closer to the things which had been miles away from me before, and it makes my days easier, it helps me succeed.

Q: What does helping others mean to you?

Geréb Noémi: Ever since I experiences what getting help means, I see helping from another perspective. I try to help others, because I feel its importance, and I also consider it useful.

Q: Message for the foundation...

Geréb Noémi: I just simply want to say "Thank you". I can't find other words to express the gratitude and the admiration for what these people do for strangers.

I'm Darvas Dávid, sixteen years old, from Tușnadul Nou. I am studying Natural Sciences in Márton Áron High School. During school I stay in Kós Károly Student Residence, in the weekends and holidays I spend my time at home with my parents and sister.

Q: It is hard to list your hobbies, but you could give it a try...

DarvasDávid: I really have a lot of hobbies maybe this is why I am never bored. First of all I study karate, I dance popular dance, at the moment we are studying a popular dance from Mezőség, it is part of an application, and as a prize we could travel to Hungary. During the long winter nights I take out the chessboard and the old books on chess to revise the techniques, besides I clean the dust off my model aircrafts and try them out. As an everyday hobby, I would like to mention reading about any topics, but I would like to highlight astronomy. I like to know everything about when and what kind of new things were discovered by the astronomers.

Q: Your interests are very diverse, having so many leisure activities how do you manage to study?Your results are very good...

Darvas Dávid: Maybe this is possible, because at some level I organize my time. Thus, even if I have a lot of hobbies, learning always comes first. After that I can think what activity to choose. Unfortunately it really happens that I have to sacrifice some things for the sake of studying, that's why I had to stop going to chess courses that I really regret. Because of the "captivity" of the student residence I cannot participate in the popular dance courses at home, but in the weekends, if the young of the village are preparing for something, I try to take my part in it. And about reading, I like to read mostly the books that I choose but because we have many compulsory literature books, I have to place them first.

Q: Still, if you had to pick one of the many leisure activities, which is your favourite? What does it give you?

Darvas Dávid: This question is very difficult to answer. I think that everything has its moment, when and what to do. I mostly relax and let the steam off by my hobbies. Maybe if I had to highlight my favourite leisure activity, I would highlight two of them. First of all reading, which makes me forget completely the daily problems, troubles, it is often said that those who do not read books live just one life, but those who read live as many lives as many books they read. Secondly, the karate, because during the training I let all the steam off, I can be relaxed, and I always learn something new that I can use not only in karate but also in everyday life. Here I learned self-discipline, respect for myself and others, I managed to overcome my biggest fears, and what is very important I learn slowly-slowly to organize my time.

Q: Choosing a career might seem distant, but have you thought of the question: "what will you be when you grow up?" Would you like to continue your studies?

Darvas Dávid: I definitely want to continue my studies, I am thinking a lot about what profession would fit me. The most important and subject for me is Chemistry that's why I choose Natural Science specialization, that's where I would like to continue my studies. The university I would like to frequent is in Cluj-Napoca, but there is a chance that I would go to Bucharest. The latter is possible because if I want to stay in my homeland it is inevitable to learn Romanian and there I could have the possibility to do it.

Q: Do you consider it important to stay in your homeland? Why?

Darvas Dávid: Yes, I consider it very important. I love my people and the history of my people, so if I would settle down abroad, I would be separated from my country and family. If we consider ourselves Hungarian and Székely, than we cannot be a community if we leave our homeland. Over the years, this small community has grown together and not a member could be absent, because every man is just as important as the community itself.

Q: If you stay at home, what do you think, how could you contribute to the progress of your fatherland?

Darvas Dávid: First of all I would like to achieve good results in my work through which I could help the needy. I wouldn't live an isolated, solitary life but I would be an active member of our community. So inspired by the foundation I would also support the young who want to study, thus contributing to the progress of our community.

Q: How does the foundation help your dreams come true? Do you have any messages for the foundation?

Darvas Dávid: Thanks to the grant received from the foundation I can continue my studies. Last year, at the end of the school year, in the last month my parents couldn't afford the student residence and travelling was very hard for me, I did not really have time for studying. The scholarship received from the foundation is very helpful because for Christmas I got a laptop that I really needed. I am grateful to the foundation, because without the support many things would be impossible for us. The foundation showed a good example that it isn't just us who need help but we also have to help the others in need. I am very happy to be part of this community and I wish good luck for the foundation to continue this valuable work.
