On the 13th of June, the foundation announced the program called “Aron Marton – the church leader and the man” for 5th-8th graders from Udvarhelyszék
Aim: to teach children about Aron Marton’s unshakable faith, persistence and responsibility towards the community as a role model for them.
The quiz show had two topics:
- Meeting the bishop
- What message he sends to children.
We expected messages with answers until the 30th of September at our address. 22 students mailed us.
On the 10th of November, we took a group of students on a field trip to Sândominic/Csíkszentdomokos, who wrote on the aforementioned topics, and their religion teachers. Some of the kids from Ocna de Jos/Alsósófalva and Ocna de Sus/Felsősófalva who go to Saint Francis Day Care also participated in this trip. We paid a visit to the museum that was set up in memory of Bishop Aron Marton. They provided an enjoyable guide for each age group. After that we went to see the bust in the commune center, the Roman-Catholic church and the Guzsalyas house where they presented us old traditional Hungarian crafts. We had some herb tea and a piece of homemade bread.
Outcome: The children gained an insight into the everyday lives of the Transylvanian peasant families who lived in the beginning of the 20th century, as well as into the difficulties of living during the war and the oppression of the communist regime.
This program was aimed to show guidance to the children to be responsible for their actions, not to be afraid of work and to contribute to their community in a positive way.
The current 5th-8th graders were born in the beginning of the digital world which was characterized by the development of the internet and technological tools. The foundation’s program established the opportunity for a field trip and for gaining experience that strengthened their self-awareness.
The Communitas Foundation and the RMDSZ supported the program.
